The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has summoned fresh applications for the head post of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The role is currently held by India’s legend, Rahul Dravid who was appointed back in July, 2019.

To be eligible to apply for the post of NCA head, the individual must have played at least 25 Tests and coached for at least five years at the international level or at India-A, India Under-19, India Women or the Indian Premier League. The NCA Head would report directly to the BCCI secretary and would be appointed on a 2-year contract. He will supervise about 25-30 employees while 12 would directly report to the head.

The invitation posted on the BCCI’s official website stated, “The Head Cricket NCA will be overall responsible for running all Cricket Coaching programs at the National Cricket Academy, Bangalore (NCA). He will be responsible for the preparation, development, and performance of all cricketers attending training at the Academy. He will be singularly responsible for the development of emerging and youth cricketers within the male and female player development programs who are sent to the NCA.”

However, the invitation for the job is thought to have greater implications than just appointing the NCA head this time around. Rahul Dravid has been long touted to take on the job of the Indian head coach ever since he helped India lift U-19 World Cup trophy in 2018 in the same role.

The opportunity is ripe for the former Indian captain this time around as Ravi Shastri who is the current Indian coach just has a few months left on his contract at the job. The possibility of an extension also looks very slim for Shastri, as he recently turned 59 this year and the age limit is capped at 60.

Thus, Indian cricket fans would get a major hint as to who would be the next head coach post the 2021 World Cup in November if Dravid does not apply for the post of NCA head.

However, sources close to the NCA have revealed that the Indian batting legend is keen on applying for the job as he does not want to take the big leap of becoming India’s head coach just yet.

The final date to apply for the post is 15th August and all eyes would be on Rahul Dravid.
