India vs England 2021 – 1st Test Match | Toss Update | Playing XI

In what is supposed to be a war between the two heavyweights of the cricketing world, England won a mini battle as they won the toss and chose to bat first. The Day 1 of the first test match is scheduled to start at 3:30 pm IST at Trent Bridge.

England captain Joe Root flipped the coin which went in his favour. The hosts went in with a pretty bold combination with no spinner in their playing XI. Jonny Bairstow made his return in whites for England.

Although not looking very disappointed with the result of the toss, Kohli said he would have batted first as well. India is coming into the series after the loss in the World Test Championship final and has opted for a new combination. KL Rahul will be seen opening the batting. Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj come into the playing XI which unfortunately forces Ravichandran Ashwin to sit out.

Talking about the pitch, it is expected to offer assistance to bowlers throughout the game. However, with so much dryness underneath, the ball is expected to come easily onto the bat.

India’s Playing XI: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (Captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj

England’s Playing XI: Rory Burns, Dominic Sibley, Zak Crawley, Joe Root (Captain), Jonny Bairstow, Daniel Lawrence, Jos Buttler (wk), Sam Curran, Ollie Robinson, Stuart Broad, James Anderson
