India vs England 2021 – English bowlers lead fightback on Day 2 of the first test match

India’s achilles heel came back to haunt them on Day 2 as the hosts’ bowlers came back hard at them. Having lost Day 1, courtesy of their inexperienced batting lineup, fans expected England to bounce back and their bowlers did not disappoint.

Continuing from 21/0, Indian openers – Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul took stride as they carefully went past the early spells of James Anderson and Ollie Robinson. Good leaves combined with few delightful strokes, Rohit and Rahul ensured England bowlers toil hard to get their wickets.

Not many balls were left before the lunch break but Rohit continued the tradition of throwing away his wicket. He offered a shot to a bouncer bowled by Robinson, who again exploited Rohit’s compulsive-pulling habit. India went to the lunch break with the score 97 at the loss of 1 wicket.

The onus was on Cheteshwar Pujara to bring his best to the middle. But even his innings did not last for long as Anderson completely deceived him with an absolute peach of a delivery. Virat Kohli walked in next as fans were getting ready for the battle between him and Anderson. But even before the excitement could peak, Kohli nicked one outside off as Anderson and English crowd went in jubilation.

Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane came out at number 4 but a poor judgment in running by him led to his undoing. The only silver lining of the day was Rahul, who brought up his fifty and battled like a lone warrior. Only 33.4 overs were bowled on Day 2 as rain played a spoilsport.

Currently, the test match is evenly poised with India sitting on 125 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. Day 3, which is often said to be a moving day, will set the tone and give a clear idea on whose favour the game is tilting.
