Already 4 matches into the 2nd leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 we have seen a thriller and pretty one sided games so far. Lots at stake for both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as they take on each other tonight at Abu Dhabi.
MI has managed 4 wins out of their 8 while Knight Riders has managed to win 3 of their share of 8 games. KKR will be eyeing to continue their momentum gained from the last match where they handsomely defeated RCB with 9 wickets in hand, on the other hand the MI will look to shake off the poor batting performance that led to their loss against CSK last game.
Currently the Mumbai Indians are at 4th in the points table while the Kolkata Knight Riders are 6th.
Date – 23 September, 2021
Time – 7:30 PM IST
Venue – Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi
In the early stages of the match, the pacers will be able to find swing, while the spinners could come handy in the middle overs. Average score at this venue remains around 155. An interesting fact, however, is that Mumbai Indians averaged 187 on this venue.
Injury: The availability of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya is still uncertain.
Strengths: Despite that, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard make the Mumbai Indians batting a threatening one. Aggression mixed with experience is a deadly combo and MI seems to have got them. Their Death Bowling is very formidable with 2 of the bests Bumrah and Boult operating for them.
Weakness: Bowling in the middle overs seems to be an area of concern for MI , it is at this phase last game where CSK got past their horrid start. Also if unavailable, they will miss Hardik Pandya’s hitting prowess at death overs.
Likely XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Saurabh Tiwary, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Adam Milne, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Injury: There are no injury concerns so far in KKR’s camp so far.
Strengths: An impressive debut from Venkatesh Iyer and the intent-full Shubman Gill seems to have addressed KKR’s biggest area of concern, batting in the power play. Impressive bowling from Lockie Ferguson and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has made KKR’s bowling lineup a formidable one too.
Weakness: Eoin Morgan hasn’t been in form over the recent past and Dinesh Karthik lacks competitive game experience recently. Both are still untested and can be rusty at the start. With only 5 bowling options available, Russell might have to bowl all the 4 overs. For someone who is prone to injury, bowling 4 overs can be worrying for KKR .
Likely XI: Venkatesh Iyer, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan (c), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, Varun Chakravarthy, Prasidh Krishna.
MI 22- 6 KKR
TOP 3 Fantasy Picks
Andre Russell – Someone who bowls 4 overs and bowls at the death is always a favourite pick for fantasy and Dre Russ has them plus his hitting powers are known to all. If on song. he can make you win a fantasy game single-handedly.
Suryakumar Yadav – The most formidable batter in the MI lineup. He can bat long and anchor the innings as well as accelerate when needed. He can earn you points any day with the bat in hand.
Jasprit Bumrah – Picking up wickets in power plays, picking up wickets at death. What else do you need for having him in the team? A must in every fantasy XI.
