India’s pacer Jasprit Bumrah grabbed the limelight as he scalped 9 wickets in the 1st Test match between India & England at Trent Bridge. His 5 wicket haul in the 2nd Innings & 4 wickets in the 1st earned him praise from the cricketing fraternity.
The Indian opener KL Rahul criticized the question on being asked about his teammate’s ‘comeback’. Earlier, the Indian Speedster had failed to grab a wicket in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand and also his performance in IPL was quite mediocre one.
In the post-match conference, Rahul defended his teammate and explained “Sir, I don’t know why you are saying that (Jasprit) Bumrah has made a comeback.”
“Every time, in every game, in every condition he has proved himself and he is our number one bowler. We are happy that he is doing what he is (has) been doing since he started playing Test cricket. Wherever he has played, he has been a match-winner for us. We are happy that he has done once again, what he does best.” he added.
The other 3 Indian seamers Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj also had a great Test match. Both Shardul and Shami grabbed 4 wickets each and Siraj took 3 wickets. Their bowling bothered the English batsmen which made an overall impact on the match.
“Sometimes the bowlers can get carried away when a lot is happening off the pitch and it says a lot about our bowling unit. There is a lot of experience in our bowling and they understand what exactly is expected of each one of them,” Rahul said.
The 1st test match between India & England ended in a draw. Each team has been awarded 4 points in the World Test Championship 2021-23 points table.
