After the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, it will be the first game for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) as they will lock horns against each other at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both teams are at the bottom half of the points table, as RR are at 6th position, whereas PBKS are at 7th position. The franchises will be eager to add valuable two points to their tally.

Sanju Samson and Co. will step onto the field in the absence of their key players such as Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes. It will cause problems for them but they have made arrangements by getting replacement players in the form of Evin Lewis, Oshane Thomas and Tabraiz Shamsi as the players are coming at the back of good individual performances.

On the other hand, Dawid Malan has pulled out himself from the 2nd leg. It may not hurt Kings much as they have Chris Gayle at the top. They have also roped in South Africa’s Aiden Markram as the replacement of Malan.

In the 1st half of this year’s IPL, both teams started their campaign against each other, where Punjab somehow managed to defend the total of 221. The match was decided on the last ball and Punjab won by just 4 runs. On his captaincy debut, Sanju Samson played a scintillating knock of 119 runs but just couldn’t take his team over the line.

As we look at the Punjab’s XI their top order looks very strong on paper as both KL and Mayank will look to continue their form as they showed throughout the first leg. The openers are expected to be followed by two Caribbean heavyweights, Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran. India’s domestic stars Deepak Hooda and Shahrukh khan have played little cameos in the 1st leg of the season. With the addition of Adil Rashid, their spin department looks settled combined with Indian rookie Ravi Bishnoi showing a lot of promise in the last season at UAE. The express pace of Chris Jordan and Mohammed Shami will get some help from the pitch as we saw in the 1st match where Boult and Milne were breathing fire against Chennai Super Kings’ top order.

Rajasthan management would not be happy as their premier overseas players pulled out just before the beginning of the 2nd leg but they did a terrific job by getting match-to-match replacements. The overseas duo of Evin Lewis and Liam Livingstone have been in terrific form. Lewis was 2nd highest run-scorer in this year’s CPL and Livingstone was superb in The Hundred as well as T20 Blast. Sanju Samson will also look to get some runs as he was not up to his mark in the 1st leg except his 119 against Punjab itself. League’s most expensive player – Chris Morris will be in action for Rajasthan.

So it will be a fascinating battle to watch out for as the both the franchises, captained by young Indian players will look to get off to a winning start in the 2nd phase of their campaign, starting today.
